The Birth of Stars
I came home from a trip to the gourd farm with a treasure trove of gourds in a variety of shapes and sizes. Disappointment followed however, when I discovered that this large gourd had an uneven base so would not stand up in the symmetrical pear shape I expected. Then I had a revelation. Why not let the gourd do what it naturally wanted to do (lean to one side) and then design around that "flaw"? I think the resulting finished piece is much more compelling and beautiful because of it's difference. I consider it a lesson in celebrating imperfection. Approximately 14 inches in diameter, and 15 inches tall. $215
